Ross Perot has died.

The Texas billionaire ran for president twice.

Family spokesman James Fuller confirmed Perot died this morning at the age of 89.

Perot drew nearly 19% of the vote.

In Louisiana he got nearly 12%.

Republicans say that both nationwide and in Louisiana his votes would have otherwise gone to Republican George H.W. Bush, so his candidacy allowed Democrat Bill Clinton to win the national vote and win Louisiana.

Clinton won with 43% of the national vote to Bush's 37%.

In Louisiana, Clinton carried the state with 46% to Bush's 41%.

Perot ran again in '96, but got less than half and many votes.  Still some Republicans say that was enough to keep Bob Dole from beating Clinton.

Clinton won reelection with 49% to Dole's nearly 41% and Perot's 8%.

In Louisiana, the race was not close.  Clinton got 52% of the vote, while Dole got 40% and Perot finished with less than 7%.
