At least some quantity of Saints fans may be on hand for the Black & Gold's second home game this season, if city officials give the okay.

State officials have given the go-ahead for fans to attend the September 27 game versus the Green Bay Packers. Details on how many fans weren't released.

The Saints told season ticket holders that fan attendance will require both state and local approval, but the team continues to have "positive dialog" with the city.

"At this time, while state officials have given their approval for fans to attend Saints games beginning with our second home game on Sunday, September 27, we continue to have positive dialogue with city officials on how and when to accommodate fans safely," the email to fans stated.

The Saints are planning a rotating schedule for fan attendance in a limited-capacity scenario.

"The final rotation will depend on the total number of Season Ticket Holders that need to be accommodated once the opt-out deadline has passed," the email says. "For example, each account will be randomly assigned one (1) of the first two (2) OR three (3) regular season games that are played with fans in attendance."

Gov. John Bel Edwards said the state's approval remains contingent on continued progress in slowing the spread of the virus.

"Understand that between now and then, depending on what happens with our tests, our cases, our hospitalizations and so forth, that any such decision is tentative," said Gov. Edwards.
