Two of college baseball’s best programs meet for a best out of three Super Regional Series on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium. The winner will advance to the College World Series. Kendall Rogers of D1baseball-dot-com says the Seminoles are playing their best baseball.
“They basically barely got into the regionals and now they are playing like they should have been playing for most of the season, so this is a scary club right now,” said Rogers.
LSU will start Cole Henry Saturday afternoon and Landon Marceaux will start Sunday. Florida will pitch junior lefty Drew Parrish on Saturday and CJ Van Eyk in game two. Rogers says Parrish and Van Eyk have stepped it up.
“They came into the season with very high expectations, they didn’t pitch very well much of the year, but those two guys specifically are pitching like we thought coming into the season, especially Van Eyk a guy who is a big time prospect for next year’s draft.”
Florida State is led offensively by slugging third baseman Drew Mendoza, who is hitting .320 with 16 home runs and 55 RBI. The leadoff hitter is Mike Salvatore, who is hitting .341 with 7 home runs and 50 RBI. Center fielder J.C. Flowers who is hitting .278 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI.
Rogers says both teams are pitching well and getting clutch performances at the plate and the Seminoles have the extra motivation of playing for their longtime head coach Mike Martin, who is retiring when the season ends.
“These are two teams playing at an incredibly high level, something has to give, I think I like the Tigers at home, but watch out for Martin’s Noles they are rolling.”
Game 1 is at 2 PM on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium. The Super Regional Series is sold out.
