Metro area businesses warned to be on lookout for funny money

Counterfeit

Slidell Police are warning businesses to be on the lookout for a man who has been passing counterfeit $100 bills around at businesses from the New Orleans area to Baton Rouge.

Described as an older white male with a scar on the right side of his face, police say the man is using phony $100 bills that are good enough to pass the counterfeit pen test. But Slidell Police spokesman Det. Dan Seuzeneau says a close look at the bills reveal they are fake. Real U.S. currency prints the opposing image so that it appears right-side-up when the bill or coin is turned end-over-end. The phony hundreds this man has been passing around have the reverse image printed incorrectly.

Police say the suspect was spotted getting into a white Honda Accord at a Slidell business, and was seen driving a grey Jeep SUV, possibly a Jeep Compass, in New Orleans.

Anyone with information on this man is asked to call Slidell Police Det. Michael Giardina at (985) 646-6172, or contact him via email at mgiardina@slidellpd.com. Tips can also be submitted at the Slidell Police web site, or by calling Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward.
