Officials say don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming out of your sewer lines today through Thursday in Kenner.

"Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn announced that smoke testing of residential sewer lines will be conducted by the Department of Public Works beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 26," according to a news release.

The testing is taking place on lines north of I-10.

"The smoke is non-toxic, harmless and creates no fire hazard. The smoke will identify leaks."

The mayor says it could cause some fear.

“Seeing smoke coming from your home or other homes in your neighborhood can be a cause for concern,” Zahn said. “I want to assure all residents that this smoke is absolutely harmless and the testing is important in helping to pinpoint any leaks in the sewer collection system.”
