Solid stock gains to end the week, modest oil increase

Stocks posted solid gains today, with the Dow Industrials rising 184 points. For the holiday-shortened week, blue chips and the tech-heavy Nasdaq both booked very modest gains, but the S&P 500 eased about two-tenths percent.

New Orleans-based Entergy says it will add 320 jobs in Mississippi - most of them at its nuclear-power division in Jackson, the rest at its plant in Grand Gulf.

Oil prices notched modest gains for a second-straight day, with the market weighing potential risks to Venezuela’s crude supplies against rising U-S stockpiles. March crude rose 56 cents, a little over 1%, to settle at $53.69 a barrel

The state with the best drivers in the country? The one where they make a lot of vehicles -- Michigan!
