Officials in St. Bernard Parish are closely monitoring which way Sally will go. Parish President Guy McInnis says if Sally jogs to the West, the parish will have a significant rain event. However, if she goes slightly more to the East the parish will dodge a storm surge.
“This thing could go either way,” said St. Bernard Parish President, Guy McInnis. “It looks like right now we are going to get some storm surge, we are going to get a lot of wind and not as much rain as we expected.”
According to the National Hurricane Center, Sally’s winds jumped 20 miles per hour higher to 85 miles per hour sustained winds. She is expected to intensify even more to a Category 2 hurricane by the time she makes landfall on Tuesday.
“We are thinking Tropical Storm weather, 30 to 40 mile per hour winds in St. Bernard parish around 1:00 a.m.,” said McInnis. “And this is such a slow moving storm we are looking at it coming to the Biloxi Marsh 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.”
