Officials on the Northshore say St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper has self-quarantined.
A spokeswoman says it is "out of an abundance of caution."
Public Information Officer Amy Bouton says Cooper was experiencing mild flu-like symptoms and a fever.
"He is following St. Tammany Parish Government COVID-19 protocols, as well as the advice of medical professionals," she said.
Bouton says Cooper has had a rapid COVID-19 test, which was negative.
She added that the parish president "is currently awaiting the results of a conventional test, expected in the next five to seven days."
