St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith plans to formally announce his decision to seek re-election Monday.
Smith intends to seek a second term as the parish’s top cop. The announcement will be made Monday evening in Slidell.
The 54-year-old Smith defeated five-term Sheriff Jack Strain in November of 2015.
Prior to becoming Sheriff, Smith served as Slidell's Chief of Police for six years. He was elected Chief in 2010 and re-elected without opposition in 2014. He also served 24 years with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
