Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal motorcycle crash Friday evening in St. Tammany Parish.

It happened about 7:25 p.m., on US 190 at the intersection of Tranquility Rd. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Cody Michael Doucette of Slidell.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Doucette was riding a 2007 Suzuki GSX eastbound on US 190 at a high rate of speed.  A 2000 Ford F-150, driven by 59-year-old Richard Mathews of Lacombe, was stopped at the stop sign southbound on Tranquility Rd. at the intersection of US 190.

Mathews entered US 190, directly into the path of Doucette’s motorcycle. The motorcycle crashed into the right side of the F-150, causing Doucette to be ejected. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Doucette sustained fatal injuries in the crash.  He was pronounced dead on scene. Mathews was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash.

Impairment was not suspected as a contributing factor for either driver. Blood samples were collected from Doucette for analysis. Mathews provided Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present. Mathews was issued a citation for Failure to Yield.
