New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell again today warned residents of the dangers associated with incoming Tropical Storm Barry.

And, again, she urged citizens to designate a safe shelter place in their homes and stay there for the duration of the storm.

"Stay dry as best as possible, Make sure that you just stay put. We're focusing on 8 p.m. this evening, asking people to stay at home...shelter in place."

She also urged residents to secure their pets and property, again stressing that there is no garbage collection being done today and tomorrow. She said that people have continued to put their trash out at curbside, despite her plea yesterday to keep garbage cans off the streets.

The mayor noted that Highway 90 will remain open for those choosing to leave, but warned of storm conditions they may encounter.

A Tropical Storm Warning and Storm Surge Warning both remain in effect for the area.

Cantrell said the heaviest rain from Barry is expected to fall on Saturday...having, very possibly, a high impact on the area. The rain, she said, is still expected to fall from this slow-moving storm for up to 48 hours.
