Stocks higher, oil gains reversed

Stocks finished mostly higher, although the Dow Industrials dipped 15 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 98.

Amazon’s fourth-quarter results are out. The e-commerce giant reported fourth-quarter profits of $6.04 a share, which easily beat estimates. Amazon’s shares were up about 2 ¾ percent in after-hours trading.

Domestic oil prices reversed earlier gains to end lower after President Trump said any U.S.-China trade deal may have to be postponed. That sparked concerns of a weaker global economy and reduced demand for oil. March crude fell 44 cents, or 0.8%, to settle at $53.79 a barrel.

There’s a new Showtime limited series in development that’ll be set in New Orleans, with much of it to be filmed there as well starting later this year. Variety reports that the 10-episode series, to be called “your honor,” will be a legal thriller starring Bryan Cranston as a respected judge.
