A car theft suspect allegedly caused a fiery crash that closed the I-10 this morning.
Sources familiar with the case say the car had been stolen out of Kenner, and the car thief abandoned it on the I-10. Witnesses called cops to report seeing the man walking on the elevated interstate over the spillway.
"We had a vehicle that was... stalled in the left lane," Louisiana State Police Trooper Monroe Dillion told WWL First News. "That vehicle actually caused a secondary crash."
He says other drivers had already reported seeing the man walk away from the car before another car crashed into the abandoned car. Troopers caught up to him a short time later.
"That subject may be under arrest right now."
The crash and fire shut down westbound I-10 traffic from Kenner to LaPlace for about an hour.
The driver of the second car suffered what Dillion described as minor injuries.
