STSO sends deputies, equipment to SW Louisiana to help after Laura landfall

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office plans to send 15 deputies from their Special Operations Division to Lake Charles area to help with possible rescue and recovery efforts following Hurricane Laura’s landfall.

The deputies will help Lake Charles law enforcement is the search and rescue efforts after Laura is no longer a threat to the area.


The deputies will bring with them,  six flat boats, eight 4x4 pickup trucks, chainsaws, generators, air compressors, life jackets, high water boots and many other supplies.

“Our brothers and sisters to our west are about to experience a devastating storm and aftermath,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We in St. Tammany know all too well what that is like. Going there to help is simply the right thing to do.”

Smith says officers from around the state came to their aid during past storms, and that they are returning the favor.
