Tickets for the Super Bowl this year are the highest-priced that they have been in the last 10 years.
The Super Bowl is different from other events in the NFL, in that the NFL controls the ticket inventory, and there are not open to the public general sales at face value offered. Actually, the “face value” is never publicized, but it is believed to be between $1,000 and $5,000.
Erin Exum of StubHub.com tells us, “The average price for this year’s Super Bowl is $7,000. The ‘get in’ price is $4,000.”
The reason that a ticket is so hard to get, is that fewer than 20 percent of the tickets goes to each of the teams playing in the game. A very small (less than two percent) goes to the other NFL teams, with a slightly larger percentage going to the Miami Dolphins (five percent) as the host team.
In the last few days, there has been a spike in purchasers from the southern states: Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. But so far, 27 percent of tickets sold are in California, and 20 percent in the Kansas, Missouri area.
If you have the money, or the credit, you can still be in that number. Or, you can start saving for next year, when the Saints make their run to the big game.
