No Bond on 1st degree murder: Suspected Mandeville cop killer is denied bail at hearing

The man suspected of killing Mandeville Police Captain Vincent Liberto, Jr. and wounding another Mandeville officer learned today at a hearing he will not be extended bail.  

The preliminary hearing at the criminal court in Covington, St. Tammany Parish, a judge ruled that Daniel Spicer, the 21-year-old suspected of opening fire on two Mandeville Police officers, will remain jailed on the murder indictment.  The judge did set a $165,000 bail amount for the other charges.  

Spicer refused to stop for officers Friday afternoon triggering a police pursuit along U.S. 190 in Mandeville.  

During the course of the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into the ditch along the U.S. 190 southbound off ramp to LA 22.  

As the incident unfolded, both Mandeville Police Department officers were reportedly shot by the suspect. 

The Covington resident, has been charged with one count each of first degree murder of a police officer, attempted  first degree murder of a police officer, aggravated flight from an officer, and possession of a stolen firearm.  

A passenger in the suspect’s vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The funeral for Captain Liberto will be held later this week.
