Police in Springfield, Louisiana arrested a 14-year-old today after authorities say he brought a gun to school

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard says other students noticed the weapon and notified school officials, who immediately brought it to the attention of the School Resource Officer.

"The weapon was secured & the student was removed from campus immediately, " said Sheriff Ard. "The campus was searched as a precaution.  The all clear was given. "

"At no time did the student threaten any other students or employees on the campus," said Superintendent of Schools Joe Murphy. "Students are proceeding with their normal schedule."

Murphy said the school will wait until the law enforcement portion of the investigation is complete before enacting its own discipline.

"Our working relationship with our local law enforcement partners like the Springfield Police Department today was seamless," said Ard. "Our SRO on campus & the relationship we have with the Livingston Parish School System is a good one - one that benefits each & every one of the students on campuses across this parish."
