
A fifteen year old who took part in a carjacking where the wife of a Gentilly-area pastor was murdered has escaped serious charges in exchange for cooperation in the case against the main suspects, one of them his brother.
Boavanti Robinson pled guilty to charges of obstruction of justice and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The plea deal sees Robinson spending an additional six month in a youth detention center and completing 50-hours of community service. Robinson must also work toward getting his high school diploma.
Boavanti Robinson, his 17-year-old brother Johntrell and 19-year-old Edwin Cottrell were all charged as adults with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. Those charges stemmed from the carjacking where 49-year-old Jeannot Plessy was killed and baby sitter Kristian Sanchez was seriously injured when they were backed over by the Plessy's car as the carjacker was making his escape.
Since Boavanti Robinson was 15 at the time, his case was moved to juvenile court. Brother Johntrell Robinson, who confessed to the crimes, faces a life sentence with possbility of parole after 25 years as he was younger than 18 at the time. Edwin Cottrell could get mandatory life imprisonment as he was an adult at the time.
According to The Advocate an unidentified girl, also a participant in the crime, has yet to be arrested.
