A young woman is dead after the car she was driving collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on I-12 just before 5pm, Tuesday.
The Louisiana State Police reports the car, a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon, drifted off westbound I-12 and across the grassy median.
The westbound vehicle entered the eastbound lanes of I-12 and continued on until it slammed head-on into an eastbound tractor-trailer on I-12.
The crash happened just east of LA 434 in St. Tammany Parish.
The car was driven by 19-year-old Mckenzie Ticker of Chalmette.
Ticker died on scene as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
She was properly restrained and impairment is not suspected to be a factor.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a blood sample was taken from Ticker for scientific analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
