Another plane crash has taken the life of a well known Louisianan. Theophile Bourgeois, owner of Bourgeois Fishing Charters, died at the controls of a seaplane he was piloting over Chandeleur Sound Sunday afternoon.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, the plane went down sometime before 3pm.
A Coast Guard helicopter responded to the incident and rescued two passengers from the plane. One was conscious, another unconscious at the time. They were flown to University Medical Center in New Orleans. Upon arrival the unconscious passenger was declared dead.
A third survivor was found sometime later and rushed to UMC. Their condition is not known.
Theophile Bourgeois founded his company in 1992 and for 27 years has ferried people on overnight and daylong outings to Chandeleur and Gosier Islands. Bourgeois Fishing Charters is well known for serving the barrier islands by plane.
He was a close friend of WWL's Don Dubuc and appeared on his radio broadcast of Dubuc's The Outdoors Guy on many occasions.
