A warm gulf storm system moved across the greater New Orleans area early Saturday morning bringing with them strong winds, inches of driving rain and severe storms.
No fewer than 20 flood warnings were issued for the parishes of the surrounding area.
The communities of Shell Beach and Alluvial City took the brunt of the storms. A local businessman in Shell Beach described the overnight storm as "...a ton of lightning and thunder all night and heavy rains." No damage in either community was reported, "we're kinda like a duck down here, the water just runs off our back and goes in the bayou. We came out of it pretty good."
Flash flood warnings are up across all the area parishes with most set to expire by one o'clock this afternoon.
