May 9, 2019 Watson began his NFL career in New England in 2004, drafted at the end of the first round. He was a Patriot for seven seasons before playing for the Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, and once more for the Saints in 2018.
Watson, 38, announced in 2018 that it would be his last season, but ended up missing the NFC Championship Game when he developed appendicitis.
By signing with New England, he gives the Patriots a veteran presence at the position after the retirement of Rob Gronkowski.
