Greater New Orleans Metro area residents are reminded that Christmas trees can be recycled in an effort to promote the restoration of Louisiana’s wetlands and to assist in the protection of the Louisiana coastline. Trees can be disposed of on the following dates for collection.Jefferson ParishPlace trees curbside Wednesday, January 8, 2020 for pick-up January 9, 10, & 11 Christmas Tree Recycling Place your Christmas tree BARE and GREEN (no flocked or painted). There can be NO stand of any type, including wooden.Orleans ParishOrleans Parish residents, eligible for collection by the City, are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees by placing them at the location of their regular garbage collection, before 5 a.m., on their regularly scheduled second collection day that occurs between Jan. 9-11, 2020, for properties serviced by Richard's Disposal and Metro Service Group. Properties in the French Quarter or DDD, serviced by Empire Services, should place their trees at the location of their regular garbage collection, before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020.Only natural, unflocked trees that are free of all stands and trimming (all ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree stands must be removed by the citizens) can be recycled. Flocked, artificial trees, trees in bags or trees with trimming that has not been removed will be collected with garbage and transported to the landfill. Trees are not to be placed on the neutral grounds, as this delays the collection process.City of KennerKenner residents can put their Christmas trees out on the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 9 to be part of the 29th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Shoreline Marsh Project.The curbside tree collection takes place in Kenner and throughout Jefferson Parish. The trees will be recycled to provide shoreline protection along Goose Bayou in the Town of Lafitte, according to Jefferson Parish. Any trees that are put out BEFORE the evening of Jan. 9 will be collected as part of normal garbage pickup and WILL NOT be a part of the recycling projects. Only trees that are green and are not flocked will be accepted. All lights, tinsel, garland, ornaments, tree stands and plastic bags must be removed. Any flocked or artificial trees WILL NOT be picked up.St. Tammany ParishSt. Tammany will begin accepting Christmas trees to rebuild the Big Branch Marsh. Trees can be taken to the Covington Fair Grounds during daylight hours, from now until March. Trees must be stripped of all decorations and the stands must be removed completely to be eligible for the program. Flocked trees cannot be accepted.St. Charles ParishThe St. Charles Parish Public Works Department will pick up live Christmas trees for recycling curbside around the parish on Jan. 9-10 and 11. Drop-off sites will also be available at the East and West Bank Bridge Parks, in the designated area, in Destrehan and Luling from Dec. 26 until Jan. 10. Trees must be stripped of all decorations. Flocked trees will not be accepted. The trees will be used for coastal restoration in the Bayou Gauche area.Terrebonne ParishResidents of Terrebonne Parish are requested to place their Christmas trees in the area of their normal garage pickup from January 6, 2020 to January 10, 2020. Residents may also drop off their Christmas trees at any of the TPCG Residential Drop-of Sites located at 263 Ashland Landfill Road, 651 Isle of Cuba Road in Schriever or 160 Crochetville Road in Montegut. The Christmas trees collected from local residents are placed into retention fences, also called cribs that have been constructed alongthe Intracoastal Waterway near the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge. Only green trees will be accepted. Flocked trees and trees with tinsel, decorations, or tree stands cannot be used.
