Flooding downpours are possible Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch through Thursday evening.

"Deep tropical moisture moving into the area will bring several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to southeast Louisiana," forecasters in the New Orleans office wrote in the watch discussion.

They say that these storms may produce locally heavy rainfall at the rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour.

"As for timing Thursday, there could be some scattered rain in the morning and likely at least a couple more periods of rain through evening."

She says Friday continues with high rain chances and maybe a few isolated heavier downpours.

Cranford does not expect widespread flooding from the expected two to four inches over two days.

"While most of our areas can handle that much rain, a few storms could bring rainfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour, which could cause some street flooding," she said.

Weekend:

  • The deep tropical moisture will leave our atmosphere by Saturday, and that should return us to more typical showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon.
  • Sunday looks even drier, and a ‘cold’ front on Monday should bring drier and less humid air our way through the middle of next week.
