Now that the holidays are over, many of us ate way too much food and now we want to try to lose the weight. Easier said than done, right? Maybe not.
It's really not that difficult if you keep it simple.
But Kathy Garvey registered dietician in the New Orleans area says fad diets don't work.
"Plant-based eating is the way you can sustain it over the long-term," Garvey said.
She says you have to try something that works for you. Using a smaller plate for your meals does help.
That's a great trick," Garvey said. "The big plates in your cabinet are about 12 inches. I like to use the next size down which is more of a 9 inch plate and it does visually help you think, 'oh, I'm getting a full meal, here' without giant portions."
When it comes to our liquids.
"Water, water, water is the key," she adds. "Coffee is okay in moderation, tea is full of antioxidants but you just want to limit the sugar-sweetened beverages."
She says water is great if you are trying to end a craving. If it doesn't work, a SMALL portion of that food you are craving would be okay.
