Tonight at 6pm a first of its kind open house meeting involving the Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Transit Authority will gather at St. Mary's Dominican High School on Walmsley and Burdett.

“This project is part of our goal to improve general mobility for our citizens, and is critical to the future of our transit system. Access to transportation is a right, not a privilege, and everyone in our City should be able to get to work in a timely manner by bus, streetcar, ferry or paratransit,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a release.

New Links is a yearlong study to remake public transit in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes.  Tonight's meeting kicks off 11 such events to learn first hand what the public want to make transit better for the region.  Information culled from the open house events will be used to target changes and improvements to transit to better serve the people.

New Links will be studying bus, streetcar, and ferry lines as they work to learn how input from the public can be best put to use.
