Tourism Economics says the unemployment rate in the travel sector has reached 51%, meaning more than half of 15.8 million travel-related jobs in the U.S. have disappeared. Travel spending during the Memorial Day weekend is likely to plunge to $4.2 billion this year, a third of what was spent last year. Travel experts say while the national economy may be in a recession, the travel industry is already in a depression.
Republican Senator John Kennedy says there’s less than a 50% change of passing another coronavirus aid package, claiming there will be “serious pushback” for “a variety of reasons” from lawmakers in both parties. Analysts are still expecting that a new package will be signed into law in June or later.
A restored, classic antebellum manor in Louisiana is headed to auction. The 1846 mansion in Donaldsonville will go under the online hammer on June 9. The home is currently also available to purchase for $1.9 million.
