The National Hurricane Center says Gonzalo is forecast to become a hurricane as the tropical storm moves toward the Caribbean.
WWL TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says that would make it the first hurricane of the season.
"Once in the Caribbean, models differ on the intensity, but the NHC calls for a gradual weakening in a more hostile environment."
Most long range models call for Gonzalo to fall apart in the Caribbean. A small percentage show it surviving into the Gulf of Mexico.
