Tropical Storm Cristobal forms in Gulf of Mexico: What we know right now

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Cristobal formed today.

Federal forecasters say the storm will "meander over the southern Bay of Campeche through late Wednesday."

The current forecast track shows an eventual northward movement with Cristobal sitting south of the Louisiana coast Sunday.  Computer models, however, still widely disagree on the eventual path.

"Still very uncertain where this thing will head.  It may at least bring us some heavy rain Sunday through Tuesday," WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford said. "Certainly something to watch."

The Hurricane Center admits that they are not very sure what this system will do.

"At this time, both the track and intensity forecasts are of low confidence," the NHC posted. "It is too soon to specify the location and timing of any potential impacts along the U.S. Gulf  Coast."

The Hurricane Center, however, says now is the time to make sure you are prepared for the coming hurricane season.
