Today is the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season -- the day that, historically, has been the busiest. September 10, 2020 is living up to that statistical marker with seven areas of interest that the National Hurricane Center is tracking.

Two will influence Gulf Coast weather. A trough of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico is producing "disorganized showers and thunderstorms." It has a low chance of development over the next five days and is forecast to move off to the southwest.

Another wave off the east coast of Florida is headed west and will have a 40 percent chance of further development in the gulf over the next five days, and move slowly west-northwestward.

A disturbance off of the Carolinas has been given a zero percent chance of development.

Tropical Storms Paulette and René are not a threat to the U.S.

A pair of waves coming off of western Africa have medium to high chances of development. Both are several days away from presenting any threat to the Americas.
