An overnight blaze left a home in Uptown New Orleans heavily damaged and five people needing a place to stay.
"At 12:55 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a 911 call reporting a fire at a home in the 2400 block of State St.," Operator Louis Carrier said in a news release. "The first fire company arrived on the scene of 2433/2435 State St. at 1:01 a.m. and found a two-story masonry veneer multi-unit residence fully involved with heavy smoke and fire."
He says it was so bad that they immediately called for additional crews.
"Due to the size and scope of the fire a second alarm was called for at 1:04 a.m. Firefighters immediately began to attack the fire."
Carrier explained that the fire had already spread from the garage to the second floor of the residence.
"Crews began to fight the fire from above as well to stop it from spreading any further. Firefighters did a great job halting the progression of this blaze and were able to keep it contained to the original fire building."
He says that fortunately everyone was able to escape the building unharmed.
"The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The New Orleans Police Department, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services, The American Red Cross and Entergy were all on the scene assisting with the mitigation of this incident."
