Two dead after three cars all slam into concrete barrier in New Orleans

Crime

The NOPD says the drivers of three cars all crashed into a barricade off the I-10 in New Orleans East.

"According to investigators, the drivers of a blue BMW, a sliver Pontiac and a Mazda 626 were traveling south on the I-10 S. Service Road and struck a cement barrier."

Two of the people in those cars died.

"Emergency Medical Personnel pronounced the 28-year-old male driver of the BMW dead and the 31-year-old female passenger of the Pontiac dead on the scene."

Four more people were injured.

"The two male passengers of the BMW, the male driver of the Pontiac and the female driver of the Mazda 626 were transported to the hospital."

Cops are trying to determine what led up to the crashes and why all three drivers hit the barricade.

"Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Unit are investigating a traffic accident that left two adults dead and four injured. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of family members. The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 pm on the I-10 South Service Road near Paris Road."

It was not immediately clear if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor.

"Blood and alcohol tests are pending.  The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identity of the victims."
