The two troopers deployed spike strips near the intersection of Wardine Road just west of I-55. The spike strips worked and disabled the suspects’ vehicle but as the troopers were removing the spike strips, a pursuing Hammond police unit hit the troopers.

Both of the injured troopers were transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Ambulance.  One trooper has been treated and released with minor injuries.  The other trooper is in critical condition. The Identity of the troopers has not been released.

The suspects in the pursued vehicle fled the scene on foot in unknown directions. Its unclear what sparked the pursuit or how many suspects were in the pursued vehicle.
