Cops at the University of New Orleans are working with NOPD to try and find the suspects who smashed windows of some three dozen cars on campus.

"We have surveillance video of the suspects’ vehicle that we are sharing with the New Orleans Police Department. The University takes seriously its role in protecting both our people and property on campus," officials said in an email to students.

This was the second time in the last few weeks that the UNO campus was the target of car burglars.  The latest incident happened early Thursday.

"This morning at approximately 1:30 a.m., suspects smashed the windows of several dozen cars parked in the HPC and Engineering parking lots. UNOPD officers were patrolling campus at the time, and we believe the presence of an officer prompted the suspects to leave campus."

Authorities say UNOPD will increase patrols and surveillance.

The emails says they will also "work with our local law enforcement partners to safeguard our campus."

It all follows a scourge of car smash and grab crimes across the city of New Orleans and the metro region that has seen similar crimes at churches, high schools, stores, parks and other locations.
