Joseph Sampson, 58, who died Saturday night when he was run over by a passing Endymion float is being remembered as a man who was all about family and was inseparable from his wife of nearly 40-years.

Wife Vondra Mack, speaking with WWL-TV, says she and her husband had been together since they were teenagers.

The couple had previous plans to attend a party Saturday night.

But the plans fell through and the two decided to attend the Endymion Parade staking out a spot on Canal just past North Galvez Street.

Sampson's nephew said his uncle loved Mardi Gras, joined in second lines and was a proud Saints fan.

The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reported Sampson was a regular participant in 9-Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club second line group and walked in many lines through the Upper 9th Ward.

Daughter-in-law Latasha Green described her father-in-law as "a loving, hard-working man."
