The unofficial start to summer has been a violent one in the New Orleans area. Five people were shot and killed in New Orleans and Jefferson Parish, one man was shot and killed in Thibodaux, and many people were injured in separate shooting incidents around New Orleans.

Saturday morning began with the New Orleans Police Department investigating a deadly shooting in the 2400 block of A.P. Tureaud Ave. The victim was later identified as Reginald Field, Dean of Students at Andrew Wilson Charter School.

Later on Saturday, NOPD homicide detectives were called to the 2200 block of N. Galvez St. to investigate the shooting death of a 27-year-old man. Police later identified a suspect, 31-year-old James Earl Webster, and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Jefferson Parish did not escape Saturday's violence, with a man found shot to death around 4:00 a.m. in the 4500 block of S. I-10 Service Rd. in Metairie.

In Thibodaux Saturday morning, officers investigating a shooting at Midland Drive & Plantation Road found a body there shortly after 2:00 a.m.

The violence continued Sunday in New Orleans with one man dead and a woman shot in the 2200 block of St. Anthony St. around 10:00 p.m. And just before midnight, NOPD officers found a man shot to death in the 1400 block of N. Claiborne Ave.

Over the weekend, NOPD also reported non-fatal shootings in Algiers, New Orleans East, on the lakefront, two in the Leonidas neighborhood, and in the 7th Ward.
