Two voting rights groups will be traveling across Louisiana the next four days, to register thousands of convicted felons whose voting rights were restored earlier this year. Voice of the Experienced, known as VOTE, and Black Voters Matter have been advertising their bus tour on social media sites. The first of the events will be held in Baton Rouge on Sunday. The campaign travels to Lafayette, Opelousas and Alexandria on Monday, Shreveport and Monroe on Tuesday, and New Orleans on Wednesday. Last year, Louisiana legislators voted to allow those on probation or parole for a felony to register to vote if they haven't been incarcerated for at least five years. The change took effect on March 1st, and is estimated to make 36,000 felons eligible for voter registration.
To date, Louisiana Registrars of Voters have not noticed any surge in signups.
