While the city health director today did not say New Orleans would require businesses to keep track of all customers to aid in contact tracing, she stopped short of saying they wouldn't.

Dr. Jennifer Avegno was asked if the city was still planning on that requirement for businesses that reopened. While her answer indicated the city appears to be backing off that plan, she didn't say definitively that they were dropping it.

"We anticipate that most of the burden will  be on the individual and the contact tracer," said Avegno. "We do expect that if it is a high-intensity contact businesses, there might be some more requirements of them."

Avegno said they will be waiting on guidance to be released by the state of Louisiana. State officials have said they have no plans to require businesses keep track of customers that extensively.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said previously that businesses would have to keep track of customers, so if there was a positive case of COVID-19, they would be able to warn more people that they may have been exposed.
