A San Diego jury has awarded New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany $6.1 million in the Brees' lawsuit against a jewelry dealer, The New Orleans Advocate reports. The couple claimed Vahid Moradi sold them millions of dollars in diamonds, telling them they were a good investment. An independent appraiser later said the gems were worth far less than what the Brees' paid for them.

Moradi could appeal the verdict, and the amount of the award could come down on appeal.

Brees's testimony in the case caused him to miss some time at off-season workouts with the Saints, including the first day of minicamp earlier this month.

Brittany Brees also testified, along with expert witnesses, and Moradi, who testified in his own defense.
