The New Orleans Saints announced a rebroadcast of the "triumphant 23-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the first game played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome following Hurricane Katrina."
The game will air this coming Monday, April the 6th, at 7:00pm on both WWL Radio and ESPN on television.
"The game marked the Saints’ home debut of then-rookie Head Coach Sean Payton, QB Drew Brees, several new players to the Saints’ roster including RB Reggie Bush, and a spunky special team’s ace in Steve Gleason," the Saints said in a news release.
The WWL broadcast will include a new pregame show with former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic and several special call-ins from Saints legends. Members of that team including all-time leading rusher Deuce McAllister and tackle Zach Strief, the current color analyst and play-by-play team for WWL and the Saints Radio Network.
"Fans can then enjoy the nostalgic trip by listening to the re-airing of the game in its entirety, with the call coming from legendary play-by-play man Jim Henderson and the on-point analysis of the late Hokie Gajan at 7 p.m."
The game, victory and ensuing season have been long-credited with helping lift the collective spirit of the New Orleans community at a time when the region was struggling to recover and rise from the devastation. The team's performance in that game and during that season inspired many to believe that as the Saints so dramatically turned their fortunes for the better, that they could too.
