New Orleans Pelicans rookie forward Zion Williamson has returned to the NBA's "bubble" after leaving last week to attend to "an urgent family matter," the team announced Friday afternoon.
“My family and I appreciate the love and respect that everyone showed us while we dealt with a private family matter,” Williamson said in a news release. “I‘m excited to rejoin my team in Orlando and look forward to getting back on the court with my teammates after quarantine.”
The former Duke star had been receiving daily tests for COVID-19 while away from the team and reportedly tested negative for the coronavirus. He'll be required to quarantine, per the league's protocol, before returning to team activities.
The Pelicans are set to open the restart of the season July 30 with a matchup against the Utah Jazz at 5:30 p.m.
