The krewe of Zulu alters its route this year to avoid the hazardous Hard Rock Hotel collapse site.

According to The Times Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate, city officials announced the krewe will not be rolling down Canal Street for safety reasons.

Instead the Zulu parade, which rolls Mardi Gras morning Feb. 25, will begin at Jackson Avenue near South Claiborne, head downtown on St. Charles Avenue, but instead of making its usual turn on to Canal – it will turn left on to Poydras Street and then right on to Loyola to Orleans Avenue before ending at the Zulu headquarters on Broad Street.

The upper floors of the unfinished Hard Rock Hotel partially collapsed last October. Three workers were killed. Demolition of the site is not scheduled until after Mardi Gras.

A spokesperson with the Krewe of Endymion says they will soon make a decision on their parade route.
