Bobby Hebert, known to Saints fans as “the Cajun Cannon,” is the first quarterback to lead the team to the NFL playoffs. Now, the former pro (1983-1996) talks sports on the flagship station of the New Orleans Saints weekdays 4 to 8pm. The legendary stage is like “Cheers” to Bobby, who is a household name in the Gulf South. Hebert grew up in Cut Off, Louisiana, played ball at South Lafourche High School and went to college at Northwestern State, LA. Bobby’s first pro gig was in the USFL…first the Michigan Panthers then the Oakland Invaders, where he received many honors: the Invaders were runners-up in the USFL Championship (1985); in 1983 Bobby led the Panthers to the USFL championship and he was the MVP in the game and the Most Outstanding Quarterback in the league that season. Hebert still holds the record of the league’s all-time leading passer with 10,039 career passing yards. In 1991, after leading the Saints to the best start ever in franchise history, Hebert was honored with the cover of Sports Illustrated on October 7th. In 1993, Bobby signed with the Atlanta Falcons and played in the NFL Pro Bowl in 1994. (And, yes, Saints fans forgive him as he’s the “Founding Father of the Who Dat Nation.” (Founded Dec. 10, 2006 after Katrina.) Bobby is a proud family man, married to Joan (Jojo) Hebert and father to four children, Ryan, Cammy, T-Bob and Beaux. He has two beautiful granddaughters, Alice and Magnolia.
