New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia posted a tribute to George Floyd on her official Facebook account, this past weekend.

In the post, Big Freedia said she was heartbroken “that and unfounded act of violence has taken (Floyd) from this world much too soon” and describes her personal connection to the Minneapolis man, who was killed in police custody.

Video of his encounter with four Minneapolis officers sparked outrage worldwide and lead to protests and calls for reforms nationwide.

“He worked as my security when I had shows in Minneapolis,” Big Freedia wrote. “In addition to being a true professional, George was kind and gentile. I smile when I recall how he would call me after a show and ask, 'When will you take me on the road with you?'"

She applauded the protestors nationwide and called for U.S. citizens to vote in November.
