LSU athletic director Scott Woodward spoke at the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation’s Quarterback Club luncheon Tuesday and the Baton Rouge Native told attendees he’s been impressed with what he’s seen from the Tigers in practice.

“I attend as many practices as I can and I can tell you that practice is a lesson in the fact that details do matter,” he said. "Every step, every hand on the ground, every route… everything the we do has a purpose. And I can tell you that we are really focused and our attention to detail is going to be unmatched.”

LSU is set to open its 2019 football season Saturday at 6:30 p.m. hosting Georgia Southern and Woodward said head coach Ed Orgeron and his staff have shown that focus leading up to the matchup in Tiger Stadium. He added that the Tigers are not looking past the Eagles despite the LSU’s Week 2 matchup in Austin against the No. 10 Texas Longhorns.

Woodward did say that he personally thought the Longhorns were a great addition to the Tigers schedule.

“It’s a testament to the confidence we have in our program and how we value the experience and quality of the opponent,” he said.

He took time to mention that a successful season won’t be easy for the Tigers. But with a new offense and loaded roster, Woodward thinks LSU be in line for a banner year.

“It’s no secret that we play in a very tough neighborhood,” he said. “The SEC West is the best division in college football period. We know that and we expect and hope for good things.”
