ATLANTA — LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Friday, he thinks running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will play in Saturday’s College Football Playoff Semifinal matchup against No. 4 Oklahoma.
How much?
“I don’t know,” Orgeron said. “We’ve got still a ways to go there. He still sore and he’s still not 100 percent healthy, obviously. I don’t know if he can cut yet and he doesn’t know if he can cut yet. We’ll see.”
Edwards-Helaire led LSU 1,290 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns this season and he’s also caught 50 passes for 399 yards and a score.
The junior has not practiced this week after suffering a hamstring injury in last weeks practices.
“He worked out with the trainers,” Orgeron said. “He did a little more yesterday. He felt a little sore after the work out.
“I talked to him last night. Obviously, if Clyde is ready to play we are going to play him. That’s going to be a game time decision.”
Orgeron said he will make sure the teams medical staff clears Edwards-Helaire to play and then will ask him if he thinks he’s be able to suit up.
“Knowing Clyde he’s going to want to play,” Orgeron said.
If Edwards-Helaire doesn’t play, Orgeron reiterated Friday that he and the Tigers’ staff has confidence in LSU’s freshmen running backs Tyrion Davis-Price, John Emery and Chris Curry.
“They've matured,” Orgeron said. “The game's have gotten them ready. John's improved on the things he had to improve on. Tyrion is a big bull. He's very physical. Chris Curry has learned the offense and can go in there and give us some plays.
“So I think all three have improved, but they'll have to play very well, if they play, against a very stiff Oklahoma defense.”
