Payton says he hasn't discussed how much longer Brees will play

They haven’t even danced around it. 

That’s what New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton told host Rich Eisen about when Drew Brees might call it a career.

Payton was a guest on the Rich Eisen show Wednesday and was asked if he’d had any discussions about how much longer the NFL’s All-Time Leading Passer might continue play.

Brees, who turned 40 in January, is entering his 14th season with the Saints (19th overall) but Payton said there hasn’t been a discussion about how many more there’ll be.

“It isn’t something that we discuss,” Payton told Eisen. “There are a lot of other things that we cover but there’s never that ‘Let’s sit down and talk about the next couple years.’” 

Payton told Eisen that he often only notices Brees’ age when he sees his kids around the practice facility. He added later in the show that he thought Brees was still playing at a high level. Last season, the veteran quarterback posted an NFL record 74 percent completion percentage while throwing for 32 touchdowns and a career-low five interceptions.

The Saints coach said that even on tape Brees hasn’t shown any signs of a decline.
