NFL owners voted to allow pass interference calls and non-calls to be challenged.
It won’t change the outcome of the 2018 NFC Title game and the anguish the Saints and the Who Dat Nation still feel from the loss to the Rams, but NFL owners totally shifted from conventional operating procedures and swiftly voted to approve a proposal that will allow NFL coaches to challenge offensive/ defensive pass interference calls and even “non-calls.”
Saints coach Sean Payton drove the message home at the league meetings today. The proposal passed 31-1; the Cincinnati Bengals were the only team to vote against the replay reviews.
This is a major victory for the Saints and fans of the NFL. Owners were impressed by the coaches’ passion during the discussion.
How will Saints fans respond? “I never thought this would happen. I never thought the owners would approve a challenge to a non-call,” said Bobby Hebert. “I’m happy they did. They got it right,” said the Cajun Cannon.
The NFC championship no-call will live in infamy as the worst missed call in NFL playoff history; but, fortunately, it should never happen again.
