It has certainly been a rough first week of the season for the Pelicans, but despite having to make a go of it without #1 overall pick Zion Williamson, the Pels were very much in all of their first three games even if they came up short at the end.
Last night though was something else altogether.
The Birds allowed a reeling Warriors team the chance to right the ship and get their first win of the season 134-123, leaving the Pelicans searching for answers.
After the game, Coach Alvin Gentry wasn't in the mood to mince words.
"They really just outplayed us in every phase of the game. They outcoached us. It wasn't a very good effort all-around," Gentry said.
The Pelicans coach said, from the opening tip, his team looked rudderless, especially on defense.
"We were never in the game," Gentry said. "We never had any chance at all at winning. And I think that's the most disturbing thing to me. Especially playing at home. We've talked all along about establishing some kind of home-court advantage, which is very important in... making it difficult to come here and win. You know, if we're gonna say we're not gonna bow down, then we're gonna have to do a lot better than that."
Now at 0-4, the Pelicans have two days to regroup before another tough matchup. They welcome the Denver Nuggets to New Orleans on Halloween night.
