Sources inside the Pelicans have told WWL Radio that earlier reports of Pelican's owner Gayle Benson blocking a potential Anthony Davis trade to the Los Angeles Lakers were false.

ESPN's Jackie MacMullan reported earlier today that she was hearing "scuttlebutt" that Benson was saying she would allow Davis to be sent to the Lakers only "over my dead body." Multiple sources refuted that claim Friday afternoon.

"Absolutely ridiculous and false," one source told me.

Another source described the implication of Benson overruling new team president David Griffin's authority as a fabrication.

"When are you going to stop believing what the national media says?" the source asked.  "Completely untrue."

Additionally, Benson refuted the claim when speaking with WDSU sports anchor and reporter Fletcher Mackel today, calling the rumors "completely absurd" and "totally untrue."

Per the “over my dead body” reports out there regarding Gayle Benson, the Lakers and Anthony Davis.I have spoken to Gayle. She laughed at the report and called it “totally absurd,” and “completely untrue.”@wdsu @basketballtalk @Rachel__Nichols pic.twitter.com/IXE2ck1VNv

Davis is expected to meet with Griffin in California sometime next week to discuss his future with the Pelicans.
